Choose the Right Joint Venture Partner

You will meet five different JV partner types in the sea of business. Only one is the right one. Choose carefully.

1. Some people will always be standing on the deck, the dock, or the diving board, waiting, hesitating, and procrastinating before they get into the ocean. They promise and prepare endlessly, but they never take the plunge. If you look at their history, you will find that they’re usually of the employee mindset and they have never really committed to anything. They’re gutless. Walk away.

2. Some will always be struggling and battling in the water, moving from problem to problem. They let their family and personal lives contaminate their business. They will always be in trouble, always complaining and always being hit by another wave. Always overwhelmed and panicking. Victims. You can’t help them or change them; move on.

3. Some will be “surfer boys”, finding the latest fad to ride, spending money and promising the world until they find the next one – the wave moves on. They’re usually seminar junkies and they buy every course that comes along and never implement the information. They jump from one thing to the next, like children getting new toys, losing interest fast and avoiding work and commitment. Not good.

4. Some with be rudderless, getting pushed this way and that by the currents and the weather of life and business, never taking control, politically correct, weak, impotent and usually passive aggressive. They’re not driven or ambitious and they always take the easy route. A typical scenario is men who are financially supported by their wives or rich kids with a trust fund. They like titles and avoid goal setting like the plague. Not a good choice for you.

5. Then you get the sailors, who are ideal JV partners. These people adjust their sails to the wind and go exactly where they want to go. They are goal directed and they take responsibility for their lives and their business success. They are skilled, determined, and flexible, and they achieve success regardless of their circumstances. They have a track record of accomplishments. They are the right people to work with.
